Chilton County Commission approves consent items, appointments, tractor invoices and posts restriction signs on County Road 41

The Chilton County Commission on Sept. 9 approved its agenda and a slate of routine and contested items, including appointments to the county water authority, payment of tractor invoices and posting new traffic signs on County Road 41.

The commission approved the consent agenda, which included minutes from Aug. 26, 2025; a claims list dated Sept. 9, 2025; multiple sheriff's office hires and reclassifications; an interstate signage agreement; a Sam's Club membership purchase; a VAWA contract for the transit department; animal control personnel actions and temporary closures for off-site adoption events; transit temporary hires; and several road department agreements and direct-purchase equipment authorizations. The consent agenda passed unanimously.

The commission closed nominations for the Chilton Water Authority and appointed Regina Respice and Julius Kelly to available seats. Commissioners moved and seconded the appointments together and approved them unanimously.

A separate vote approved payment of invoices from Thompson Tractor. The motion passed with six votes in favor and one abstention; no commissioner name for the abstention was recorded in the meeting transcript.

The commission suspended the rules to take up County Road 41, where a prior action had restricted traffic. Commissioners authorized posting signs reading no through trucks except governmental vehicles, a change that will allow county and city government vehicles to use the road; that action passed unanimously.

Other routine actions approved by the commission included a resolution to surplus and sell timber from Manuka Park and a subsequently approved agreement for a contractor to harvest that timber, with any revenue to be deposited into the Manuka Park fund. Those timber items were handled as separate motions and approved unanimously.

The meeting closed after the motions were approved and routine announcements were made about an upcoming Verbena town-hall meeting.
