Maury County Commission elects Danny Grooms chairman, names Gwen Evans vice chairman and confirms committees

Commissioner Grodi nominated Danny Grooms for chairman; Commissioner Hollingsworth seconded the nomination to approve the agenda earlier in the meeting. A motion to cease nominations carried, and Grooms received the votes necessary for election; the commission chair called the result "11 eyes," meeting the majority threshold announced earlier in the meeting.
The commission then moved to elect a vice chairman. Commissioner Bridal nominated Gwen Evans; the nomination was seconded and Evans was elected by acclamation.
A motion by Commissioner Howard to accept existing committee assignments was amended by Commissioner Saunders to remove the building committee from the blanket confirmation and elect that committee separately. The amendment passed, 16 yes and 3 no, and the amended motion to accept committee assignments carried, 19 in the affirmative. The commission then nominated and approved the building committee: Morrow, Summers, Howard, Markham, Prevetti, Green and Nutt were named to the building committee and the vote to accept those members passed 19-0.
Danny Grooms, speaking after his election, thanked commissioners for their confidence and said he would try "to live up to the confidence that you placed in me." The mayor congratulated the newly elected leaders and committee members before the meeting moved on to the public-comment portion of the agenda.
Actions recorded on the record included approval of the meeting agenda, the election of the chairman and vice chairman, passage of an amendment to separately elect the building committee, confirmation of committee memberships, and adjournment of the meeting.
The meeting proceeded to public comment after a brief recess.
