City reports steep social-media growth; manager announces new permit, hiring and event plans

City communications staff reported strong organic growth on the city’s social-media channels and the city manager announced development-related permits and community events during the Sept. 8 Common Council meeting.
Amanda Gilbert, the city’s communications specialist, said Instagram views rose to 71,865 for January through the previous day, compared with 20,400 for January–March, and Instagram reach grew to 8,084 accounts. She said Facebook views for January–September reached 4.6 million with 446,900 accounts reached and that video content accounted for roughly 192,000 views and 68 days of total watch time across platforms. Gilbert said the city gained 351 Instagram followers so far in the year (bringing the account to 1,623 followers) and 2,199 Facebook followers (total 15,666), and that growth was organic rather than paid advertising.
City Manager Kevin Lehner told the council a building permit was pulled that day for a Buffalo Wild Wings at 1908 Center Ave., described as a smaller-concept store. Lehner said the city is recruiting crossing guards, noted recent pressure-washing and added police presence at the North Parker Drive parking ramp, and announced the Woodman Center grand opening events scheduled Sept. 19 with family activities and giveaways. He also said the city received two proposals in response to an RFP for a data center; staff are reviewing submissions and will schedule interviews if appropriate.
Council members asked procedural questions about these items; Lehner said meetings and outreach for major projects will be public and that staff will follow up on recruitment and procurement steps. No votes were required for the informational reports.
