Kenosha parks commission approves two running events and December open burn; minutes adopted

The commission approved a request from the Kenosha Running Club to hold the Harvest Moon 5K on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2025. The permit covers use of Simmons Island, Kennedy, Neuer and Alfred Park, use of the bike-pedestrian path, closure of Kennedy Drive, amplified sound and temporary structures. Brian Falcone, representing the Kenosha Running Club, said he was “here to answer any questions you may have about our organization or the events that we host.” The motion to approve was made and seconded and carried on an affirmative voice vote.
Separately, the commission approved the Kenosha Running Club’s request to hold the mayor’s Turkey Day run on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2025. That permit includes closure of Alford Park Drive, Kennedy Drive and Simmons Island, a 6:30 a.m. event setup time, amplified sound, public entertainment, food service and temporary structures. A commissioner said he had checked with the fire chief and the deputy fire chief, who reported no concerns, and noted private ambulance service is hired for the event; the motion to approve was seconded and carried on an affirmative voice vote.
The commission also approved a request from the City of Kenosha Parks Department to host an open burn from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Washington Municipal Golf Course for the annual Magic Inn event (planned for December, weather dependent). Parks staff said they purchased propane fire kits that would be used for s'mores kits and for warming attendees. The permit was approved after public hearing and a motion.
At the start of the meeting commissioners adopted the minutes of the Aug. 28, 2025, Parks Commission meeting. During commissioner comments later in the meeting, Parks Department staff reported revenues for the municipal pools were up about 33% from the previous year and golf-course revenues were about 10% higher than the prior year; staff agreed to provide the committee with more detailed numbers.
No ordinances, code changes or grant awards were discussed. All three permit requests and the minutes were approved by voice vote; no roll-call tallies were recorded in the meeting transcript.
