The Fairfield‑Suisun Unified School District Governing Board on Sept. 18 approved a revised governance handbook after a lengthy debate that focused on requirements for board officers, the board’s agenda order and how often the handbook should be reviewed.
Board President Veronica Patero opened the discussion when the committee’s recommended handbook came before the full board. Vice President Flynn, who chaired the governance subcommittee, moved adoption of the revisions; Doctor Hundley seconded the motion. After extensive discussion and several proposed changes from multiple trustees, the board amended the motion to restore language on (1) emphasizing student learning and achievement, (2) encouraging board members’ professional development, and (3) retaining an annual review and reapproval of the handbook at the organizational meeting. The amended motion carried.
