The Marin County Board of Supervisors on Sept. 9 heard a demonstration of Placer AI — a location analytics platform that uses anonymized, opt‑in mobile data to show where people go, how long they stay and how patterns change over time — and discussed using the tool to inform tourism, traffic, emergency planning and economic development.
The presentation, prepared by District 2 interns working with Supervisor Damon Colbert’s office, showed the county how Placer AI can distinguish local versus out‑of‑county visitors, chart event arrival and departure times and compare visitorship among festivals, downtowns and parks. "Placer AI is a location analytics platform which tells us where people go, how long they stay, and how these patterns shift over time," said Sonia Saltzman, an aide to Supervisor Colbert, who introduced the interns.
