Council amends alarm-permit schedule to avoid forcing re-permitting and extra fees
Summary
Council approved an amendment to the alarm permit ordinance so current permit holders will not be required to re-permit on Oct. 1 and therefore will not incur additional fees until their regular renewal dates.
The Lubbock City Council approved an amendment to the municipal alarm-permit rules to prevent current permit holders from being forced to obtain a new permit and pay additional fees on Oct. 1, 2025.
The city’s police chief summarized the change in public terms: the alteration is “to adjust so that current permit holders are not forced on October 1 to re permit incurring additional fees so they won't have to, to renew their permits until the actual renewal date for their individual permits.”
Councilman Rose moved to approve the item for permits issued or renewed on or after Oct. 1, 2025; the motion passed unanimously.

- Motion to approve item 5.26, effective for all alarm permits issued or renewed on or after 10/01/2025: approved unanimously.
Implementation
Staff said the amendment will take effect for permits issued or renewed on or after Oct. 1, 2025, and that permit holders should follow their regular renewal schedule to avoid duplicate fees.
