The City of Wauwatosa Planning Commission on Sept. 8 voted unanimously to recommend approval of a conditional use permit allowing an eating establishment at 6108 West Bluemound Road.
City planner Mr. Pinon told the commission that the proposal would locate a deli counter, kitchen display area and outdoor seating at the south end of the space. He said surrounding uses include single‑family residences to the north and commercial properties to the southeast and west. “The proposed operating hours are Tuesday to Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.,” Pinon said during his overview.
Applicant Amberly Childs, who identified her address as 6108 West Bluemound, told commissioners she took over the lease from a prior tenant and that neighborhood members had provided feedback during build‑out. Childs corrected a staff packet typo about the seating location and confirmed the outdoor seating will be on the sidewalk at the south end of the space, not in the parking lot behind. “It’ll be on the sidewalk, yes. When Daddy’s was there before, there was some outdoor seating, so it would just kind of be in that same operating area,” Childs said.
Commissioners welcomed the reuse of a vacant building. “Welcome to the neighborhood,” Alder First said before moving to approve the conditional use permit with staff recommendations; Commissioner Osmond seconded. The chair called the vote and announced it passed unanimously. Pinon said the item will proceed to the Common Council on Sept. 30 for final consideration.
Why it matters: The proposal fills a vacant storefront on a commercial corridor and includes a sidewalk seating plan that staff and the applicant said would use an area formerly occupied by another business, preserving the existing parking area.
Provenance: Staff overview and applicant remarks are recorded in the meeting transcript beginning with Pinon’s item summary and Amberly Childs’ remarks confirming the south‑end sidewalk seating; the vote is recorded as unanimous.
