City staff will contact nearby providers (including a firm that previously responded to city requests) to assess availability, capacity, and cost. The council was told some providers may limit space or charge a monthly reservation fee to guarantee capacity. Staff said they will present options and estimated costs to the council once they complete outreach.
Why it matters: State law and local code require municipalities to provide a means to impound stray or dangerous animals; losing a nearby contracted provider can increase response times and costs.
