Board adds real‑time translation service for public meetings via Wordly

Contra Costa County announced on Sept. 9 that it will begin using Wordly, a real‑time translation platform, at Board of Supervisors meetings to provide meeting translation for in‑person and remote attendees.
Chair Candace Anderson said the platform will be available immediately; attendees in the chambers can scan a QR code and online participants can use a Wordly icon in the Zoom interface to receive live translations. Staff said Wordly supports more than 25 languages and will translate non‑English public‑comment remarks into English for display on the chambers'large screens and the screens at the board's dais.
The board framed the change as an access and inclusion measure aimed at allowing residents to follow meetings in their preferred language. No policy or budget motion was required for the demonstration; staff will operate the platform during meetings going forward, and board members thanked the clerk of the board, Jamie, for implementing the service.
The announcement preceded the day's pledge and the start of scheduled business.
