At its Sept. 8, 2025 regular meeting, the Battle Ground School District Board of Directors recorded several routine votes and formal actions. The minutes show the board passed motions by the four directors present; Director Jackie Maddox had a prearranged absence.
Summary of recorded actions and outcomes
- Motion to excuse Director Jackie Maddox from the meeting: passed (4–0). - Motion to approve the meeting agenda as presented: passed (4–0). - Approval of the consent agenda (minutes, personnel reports, student travel, contracts and cooperative agreements listed on the consent agenda): passed (4–0). - Revision and approval of Policy 2230, Transition to Kindergarten: passed (4–0). The policy updates formalize eligibility and programming standards for the district’s transitional-kindergarten program and reflect new statewide reporting/funding rules (students are to be assigned a statewide student identifier for reporting and funding purposes). - Revision and approval of Policy 3143, Notification and Dissemination of Information about Student Offenses and Notification of Threats of Violence or Harm: passed (4–0). A single sentence was added to codify parent/guardian notification when violent or criminal activity is reported on school property; staff said the district already notifies families in these circumstances and this change codifies the practice in policy.
Vote tallies and attendance
Four directors voted on each recorded motion: Mary Snittley (President, Director District 1); Debbie Johnson (Director District 2); Ted Champine (Director District 3); and Terry Tate (Director District 4). Student representatives participated in voice votes but are not recorded in the roll-call tallies presented in the minutes. The motions passed unanimously among the directors present, 4–0.
Notes
- Board members and staff discussed the substance of the transitional-kindergarten policy, including that the district already runs a transition-to-kindergarten program at each elementary campus and that the legislative funding model for the program had been adjusted during the last session. - Staff said the added notification language in Policy 3143 implements the Parents' Bill of Rights-related reporting requirement; administrators said the district was already notifying families in practice.
The board recessed into executive session after the public portion of the meeting and returned without further public action recorded in the minutes.
