The Dorchester School District 2 finance committee told the board Sept. 8 that it reviewed bond restructuring, a recent payment to the IRS tied to bond overperformance and plans to refine the district’s investment policy.
Committee member Mr. Guthrie said the district had to make a payment to the IRS because bond performance exceeded initial estimates, calling it “good news, bad news” — an unplanned payment but evidence of stronger returns on investments. The committee discussed possible adjustments to the district’s investment policy to allow a broader mix of investment vehicles while retaining safety and liquidity standards.
Guthrie also said the committee intends to present clearer, more visual financial information at future public meetings so residents can better understand what the numbers mean. The finance committee scheduled its next meeting for Oct. 6 at 4:00 p.m.
The board received the update with no immediate action items; the finance committee will return with policy recommendations if changes to the investment policy are proposed.
