Councilor asks to table overhaul of Chapter 19 landlord-tenant code for further work

Councilman Koneko (Kaneko) told the Administrative Finance Committee on Sept. 9 that he would ask to table Ordinance 25-107, which would amend New Castle County Code Chapter 19 governing residential rental properties and landlord-tenant rights and responsibilities. He said additional consultation with Land Use and further clarifications are needed before the ordinance returns to committee.

"After much consultation, with council to council, we are still working with land use. So I'm going to ask to table this tonight, as we... clarify a few more things and tighten up the code," Kaneko said. He told colleagues he expected the item to return in roughly two weeks and that it might go to Land Use or back to Finance for further discussion.

Committee members did not debate policy specifics in detail at the committee meeting; Kaneko encouraged all council members to review the draft legislation. No public comment was recorded on the ordinance at the committee session.
