Douglas County assessor reports reduced appeals and high adjustment rate; board acknowledges reports

Douglas County Assessor Toby Damisch delivered the annual reports to the County Board of Equalization on Sept. 9 summarizing 2025 appraisal appeals and personal property declarations. The board acknowledged receipt of three reports — appealed real property results, appealed personal property results, and a list of personal property accounts that failed to file declarations — and no formal action was required.
Damisch told the board the number of residential appeals had declined sharply since the 2023 reappraisal cycle. He reported 4,653 residential properties appealed this year compared with more than 36,000 appeals filed in 2023. Damisch said the assessor's office adjusted 57% of residential homeowner appeals this year, a record adjustment rate, and credited staff including residential appraisal manager Becky Fisher.
In comments after the presentation, commissioners thanked the assessor and staff; one commissioner referenced the office’s work returning about $37 million to property owners during the process. County administration staff noted County Board of Equalization hearings will run from mid-September through late October and that Christy Gordon in county administration manages those hearings. The chair acknowledged acceptance of the reports and adjourned the Board of Equalization portion of the meeting.
