The Board approved purchasing a used 2000 Freightliner semi tractor from a local dealer for $14,500 to support transfer-station operations. County staff said the unit, offered by Gregory Gilbert Trucking in Algona, has a Cummins N14 engine and 675,000 miles and would be used primarily to move trailers at the transfer station and as a spare on highways if needed.
Staff noted the county's current tractor is a 1999 Sterling with a high-mileage engine; supervisors voted to purchase the Freightliner after staff reported the truck had no known recent major overhauls and appeared suitable for station duties. The motion to approve the purchase passed on a voice vote.
Staff will coordinate the purchase and prepare the unit for transfer-station duty.
