Supervisors acknowledge transfers to Secondary Road fund; foreman reports crew back on 8-hour schedule

The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors acknowledged two transfers affecting the Secondary Road fund and received an update from the county secondary road foreman.

The board acknowledged transfers dated Sept. 4: $17,947.89 (recorded as a transfer involving General Basic to Secondary Road) and $136,611.12 (recorded as a transfer involving "Merle Basic" to Secondary Road). The transfers were entered into the meeting record by the chair.

The secondary road foreman reported that crews returned to an eight-hour, five‑day workweek beginning the prior day and said staff were working on driveways, ditch cleaning and several other maintenance tasks. “Pretty much working on the roads. Guys are back into a 8 hour day, 5 days,” the foreman said.

Supervisors and staff discussed specific local concerns raised during the update: a culvert issue for a resident identified as Alan Kramer (the foreman said the location is on the department's work list); a dirt road south of Seneca that had received complaints; a downed or damaged sign near Titonka (described in the transcript as near "1808300 and Fortieth Street" and associated with resident Lexi Smith); and ditches that have filled in over time and need cleaning and rock checks.

The foreman said the department is scheduling ditch cleanouts, placing rock checks where needed and working through reported driveways and other work orders. The board also briefly discussed the possibility of vacating a road segment near Titonka if easements could be obtained from landowners in the middle of the route.

The acknowledgement of transfers and the foreman's updates were recorded in the public portion of the meeting; no formal vote on the transfers was taken during the public discussion other than placing the transfers on the meeting record.
