Fremont County motor vehicle office earns perfect score on state audit, county recognizes staff

Fremont County’s motor vehicle facility in Cañon City received a flawless state audit score, county officials said at the Board of County Commissioners meeting Sept. 15.
Chief Deputy Clerk Dottie Gardugno, Motor Vehicle Director Berta Newell and Motor Vehicle Clerk Jeanette Moulay were acknowledged after the state conducted an inventory audit on July 8. The county read an email from the auditor stating the office scored a "flawless 27" out of a possible 27 points under a newly expanded scale that included title paper for the first time.
The clerk said the audit found more than 39,000 serialized inventory items accounted for in full, storage areas tidy and labeled, and that title paper was "exceptionally handled," with over 99% accounted for. The clerk noted staff processed more than 400 transactions and queued more than 172 people on the audit day while remaining cooperative and organized.
Commissioners praised the staff for the result and said they would include the audit report in the meeting folder and post photographs of the staff on the county website.
The recognition was an informational item; no formal vote was required or recorded.
