The board also discussed a new policy draft that would require prior written consent from the district (superintendent or designee) for a student to use school property, uniforms or logos in commercial NIL (name, image and likeness) agreements; staff said the intent is to standardize approval across high schools and charter partners.
AEDs and urgent life‑saving measures: The board reviewed a new requirement derived from House Bill 1607 and a new Florida statute (1003.457) that schools maintain plans and operational AEDs for urgent life‑saving emergencies. Staff told the board the district is on schedule to meet AED deployment deadlines and has been working with law enforcement and the Office of Safe Schools on perimeter and security measures.
Human trafficking training and Holocaust Remembrance: Policy revisions call for employee training on human‑trafficking awareness developed by the state and require documentation that staff completed the training. The board also approved adding language to provide age‑appropriate Holocaust Remembrance instruction on Jan. 27.
Other updates: The policy package included standard technical edits (gender‑neutral language updates), changes to dropout prevention definitions, and alignment with recent state rules on expulsions and conduct. Staff said some items are pending vendor or statutory clarifications (for example, the status of New Worlds scholarships and timing of statutory changes).
