Denton County residents press commissioners for countywide Election Day vote centers

Several Denton County residents urged the Commissioners Court on Sept. 9 to adopt countywide vote centers for Election Day, saying broader voting locations would reduce confusion and improve voter access. Speakers representing voters and former election workers told the court during public comment that closing precinct-based polling places causes long lines and deters voters.

The comments came during the court’s public comment period ahead of the Sept. 9 meeting. “I’m asking that we make sure that we can advocate for our folks and have countywide voting throughout Denton County,” said Stephanie Draper, a former candidate for state Senate, who described voters being turned away because they were at the wrong precinct.
