Pulaski aldermen approve 20-acre rezoning and advance two other zoning changes

The Pulaski Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Sept. 9 approved the second and final reading to rezone a roughly 20-acre parcel referenced in the meeting materials as 1749 Brawley Lane (the transcript also records the address as 1749 Raleigh Lane) and voted to advance two other rezoning requests to later consideration.
Mister Keith, a city staff member, told the board the 20-acre site sits across the road from Mid South Concrete and backs up to Countryside Apartments. “This was a recommendation from the planning commission,” Keith said, and the council moved forward on that recommendation at second reading.
The board also held first readings on two additional rezoning petitions. One affects three lots at the corner of West Washington and North Second Street (petition to rezone from C-3 to C-1 to match adjacent downtown zoning). Keith said the request would align the lots with the C-1 downtown district so buildings can match existing zero lot lines. The board approved that change on first reading. Another first-reading request would rezone a small parcel behind and beside the funeral home on Highway 64 at Elton Pike to C-3 to match the funeral-home corner; the council approved that request on first reading.
All three items were presented as recommendations from the planning commission. The 20-acre parcel was described as a potential site for new housing development, with Keith saying matching the planning commission recommendation made the rezoning “appropriate.”
The council approved the 20-acre rezoning on second and final reading after a roll-call vote in which all members recorded aye votes. The two first-reading rezoning items likewise passed their initial readings and will return for a subsequent hearing and final vote.
The meeting record shows no members of the public spoke at the public hearing for the 20-acre parcel.
Moving forward, the items will follow the city’s remaining public-notice and hearing requirements before any change in use or development occurs.
