Saline County approves Niles Road as minimum-maintenance with gated access

The Saline County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 9 approved Resolution 2025-135 to designate a portion of Niles Road as a minimum-maintenance road with gated access after a petition from property owners William Crawford, Sean Korb and Lisa Green.
Road and Bridge Administrator Darren Fischel told the commission the Saline County Planning Board recommended the classification change at its Aug. 26 meeting. "Property owners are responsible for installation of the gates," Fischel said, and staff recommended confirming the limits of the resolution as presented.
No members of the public spoke during the Niles Road hearing. The commission opened and closed the hearing, then moved and seconded to approve Resolution 2025-135; the motion carried on a voice vote.
The resolution confirms the limits described in the petition and places installation responsibility for access gates with the property owners. Staff reported the budget impact would be minimal.
