Saline County designates Ottawa Road as minimum-maintenance with gated access

The Saline County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 9 approved Resolution 2025-134, designating Ottawa Road between F Quake Road and McGavin Road as a minimum-maintenance road with gated access, following a petition from property owners.
Darren Fischel, Road and Bridge Administrator, told the commission the petitioners, Thomas Pestinger and Marion Woody, requested the change and that the Saline County Planning Board recommended approval on Aug. 26. "Property owners are responsible for installation of the gates," Fischel said.
One member of the public, Tom (Pestinger), told the commission the road should be closed to "stop the riff raff" and noted a bridge on the road is out. "I'd appreciate if we close that road...the bridge is out," he said.
After the hearing, a commissioner moved to approve Resolution 2025-134 and another seconded. The commission voted by voice and the motion carried.
The resolution confirms the limits of the road classification change as presented and leaves gate installation responsibility with the property owners. Staff said the budget impact of the classification change is minimal.
