The Quincy City Council recorded several approvals and committee reports at its Sept. 8 meeting, including two charitable gifts, a public-works utility-location approval, and ordinance-committee parking changes.
Council approved a $7,500 gift from the Copeland Family Foundation to the Bridal Shelter (Order 2025-110) and a $10,000 gift from the Copeland Family Foundation to an item recorded in the minutes as "Deere" (Order 2025-101). Both motions were moved by Councilor Harris and seconded by Councilor Debona; roll-call votes were recorded in the affirmative.
The council also reported a positive recommendation from the Public Works Committee on Order 2025-098, a utility-location request for Verizon on Washington Street and Southern Artery and Beacon Street; the public hearing produced no speakers and the committee recommended approval. The council noted the committee's positive recommendation and the motion carried.
The ordinance committee made and the council accepted two parking-related actions: Order 2025-077 (remove handicapped parking at 65 Lorton Street) and Order 2025-097 (handicapped parking at 301 Billing Street). Both motions were approved in committee and reported out to the full council.
Finance Committee report: The council recorded a positive recommendation out of the Finance Committee on Order 2025-074 (land-disposition agreement for 1620 Hancock Street). The finance committee vote was recorded and reported to the full council; committee-level approval does not itself complete any sale or transfer, which remains contingent on satisfying LDA closing and permitting conditions.
