District staff reported that the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) notified the district it did not advance to the final eligibility round for Assawompsett in the current cycle and asked the subcommittee whether it should resubmit for the next round.
Ashley Loops told members, “We received notification from MSBA that we did not make the eligibility round,” and asked whether the committee and the Town of Lakeville wished the district to pursue resubmission for fiscal year 2019 (as discussed) or focus on other funding avenues.
Subcommittee members noted the district previously advanced through an initial eligibility round in an earlier year, and they urged coordination with town leadership before a decision. One member said green‑community grant funding and funds previously pledged from a lawsuit for repairs are already slated to support renovations at Assawompsett and recommended discussion with Nate Darling and town officials before reapplying.
The group discussed timing: the MSBA filing window cited in the discussion closes on April 12 (staff noted), and the school committee will consider the matter at its next meeting. Members emphasized the need for town sign‑off; as one participant put it, “we obviously need the support of… the boards and the votes,” meaning the select boards in the two towns.
Staff also noted that because the district has been investing in targeted renovations (heating, windows and other green upgrades) the school’s demonstrated need for MSBA assistance may have shifted. Members said a focused conversation with the school committee and the Town of Lakeville’s officials would help clarify whether resubmission makes sense.
No formal motion to resubmit was taken at this meeting; staff said they would bring the issue to the school committee and seek input from town administrators before any application is filed.
