Wylie rec reports nearly $250,000 in summer-camp revenue and almost 1,500 participants

Wylie Parks and Recreation staff told the board on Sept. 8 that the summer camps program had its most successful season to date, bringing in nearly a quarter of a million dollars in revenue and serving nearly 1,500 children.
Staff said the program offered 83 distinct camps, with total participation close to 1,500 kids and an overall capacity utilization of about 81%. The reported average attendance was about 18 children per camp and the average cost per camp was $155. Staff also reported a brochure-to-participant ratio of 1.7 (about 1.7 brochures produced per registration), a response rate around 60% and a cancellation rate of 3.6%.
Staff said only two camps were canceled for low enrollment and one was canceled because a provider withdrew. The department also noted that about 40% of summer camp registrants held a rec pass, and that rec pass revenue and camp revenue both increased year over year (rec-pass monthly revenue up about 30% on average; camp revenue up 23%).
Board members did not take any formal action on the summer-camp report; staff presented the metrics as part of the work-session briefing.
