Parks staff reports progress on Founders Park fields, Pirate Cove shade, pickleball lighting and multiple trail repairs

At the Sept. 8 meeting of the Wylie Parks and Recreation Board staff provided status reports on several park improvement projects, including field work at Founders Park, playground shade at Pirate Cove, pickleball shade and lighting and multiple trail repairs.

Founders Park: staff said only minor patches remain and the fields are being watered; an official opening date was not specified and will be shared with the board when available.

Pirate Cove playground shade: staff reported engineering issues with the posts have been identified and are being resolved; the contractor will provide updated timing this week.

Pickleball courts: shade and lighting construction is scheduled for late October, weather permitting.

Community Park parking: staff said the city selected a contractor and the City Council has approved the selection; construction kickoff timing will be announced soon.

Trails: repairs included a section of Community Trail that was moved away from a creek due to slippage; crews are completing cleanup this week. Work at the McCrary crossing (trail connection toward Murphy) has begun with saw cutting and demolition. Cramer Estates Trail is due to begin next week; staff said similar creek-overflow issues required corrective work. Staff told the board the projects should be wrapped up within the next couple of weeks and that several of the carryover items were rolled into the new fiscal cycle that begins Oct. 1.

Staff repeatedly noted Brent, the project lead, was not present and that questions requiring technical detail would be forwarded to him for email follow-up.
