Summary
At its regular meeting, the Mt Vernon Community School Corp board approved a set of motions including a student boundary adjustment, joining the IPEP workers’ compensation trust, approval of multiple policy updates and an appointment to the Vernon Township Public Library board. All votes recorded were unanimous.
The Mt Vernon Community School Corp board approved several administrative items in a single session Tuesday evening, including a boundary reassignment affecting three neighborhoods, district membership in a workers’ compensation trust, final approval of multiple policy updates and an appointment to the Vernon Township Public Library board.
Board action matters because they affect student assignment, district liability coverage and local representation on a public library board.
The board voted 5-0 to: accept the meeting consent agenda; approve district membership in the Indiana Public Employers’ Plan (IPEP) workers’ compensation trust; approve eight policies presented at second reading and delete policy D250; move Vintners Park, Tatum Rockport and the parcel known as Daniels Vineyard from McCordsville Elementary to Fortville Elementary; and appoint Carla Nugent as the district’s representative to the Vernon Township Public Library board. Each motion was offered, seconded and carried by voice/hand vote with no recorded opposing or abstaining votes.
During the meeting Greg Elkins, chief financial officer, told the board the IPEP option resulted from the district’s summer renewal process and that the trust offered preferable pricing and coverage relative to their prior provider. The boundary change was presented by Dr. Parker as a corrective measure after the district identified two students living in Vintners Park who were assigned to the wrong elementary school; Dr. Parker said the move restores the three elementary schools’ enrollment plan to the configuration that existed before the last board meeting.
Board members made the motions and seconded as recorded in the meeting: the agenda and consent agenda motions were moved by Megan and seconded by Stacy; the IPEP membership motion was moved by Chad and seconded by Kelly; the policy approvals and deletion of D250 were moved by Kelly and seconded by Stacy; the attendance boundary motion (Vintners Park/Tatum Rockport/Daniels Vineyard) was moved by Kelly and seconded by Megan; and the library appointment (Carla Nugent) was moved by Chad and seconded by Stacy. All motions carried 5-0.
The board meeting also included routine reports and public hearings (see separate articles). The board adjourned at 7:48 p.m.
