Huntsville Utilities asked the Madison County Board of Education to reconsider the route of an underground utility easement at the district’s Moores Mill property, and district staff said they will bring the formal approval back to the board at the next meeting.
At a Sept. 5 informational item, a district administrator said the board approved an initial easement in February 2023 to place underground utilities on the north side of the property. Huntsville Utilities has since built an electric substation and asked to shift the underground route to cross the back of district property, travel south and return to Walker Lane along the property line. District staff said the new route (described in the board presentation as a yellow line on the accompanying map) would remain underground.
The district’s construction staff said the revised route appears unlikely to interfere with current operations, the dry retention pond or future development, but the board will see a formal approval (action item) at the next board meeting for a final vote. Board members asked where the route would surface and were told it comes out on Walker Lane.
The item was presented as information; board members did not take a vote on the easement at the Sept. 5 meeting.
