Tamarac staff update parks projects: Glades Course design contract, Sable Palm RFP presentations and Eastside Community Park grant submission

TAMARAC, Fla. — City staff updated the commission Monday on three separate parks and recreation items: a design-services contract for the Colony West Glades Course, vendor presentations for the Sable Palm Park construction procurement, and the status of the Eastside Community Park grant and project timeline.
Glades Course design services: Staff described a proposed contract with Kimley‑Horn and Associates to provide engineering design, permitting and construction administration for the Glades Course at Colony West Golf Course. The contract total presented was $483,000: $331,500 for design, $151,500 for construction administration and engineering services during construction, and a 5% contingency of $24,150. Staff said the work responds to community feedback and follows an earlier irrigation renovation approved at a previous meeting.
Sable Palm Park procurement: Staff said the commission will hear presentations from four shortlisted vendors as part of RFP No. 25-14R, with two teams presenting in the morning and two in the afternoon; the presentations will inform the commission’s provider selection and contract negotiation for construction of Sable Palm Park on the city’s east side.
Eastside Community Park grant and schedule: Public Services Director Mustafa Albasam presented the schematic plan for the Eastside Community Park, which shows minimum grant-required amenities including a 10-foot walking trail, benches, water fountains, playground, tennis court, basketball court, pavilions, a fishing pier with observation deck, and a 10,000-square-foot community center. The building was described as including a reception area, aerobic/fitness room, parks-and-recreation offices, a satellite Broward Sheriff’s Office office, restrooms, rentable flex rooms, staff break room and IT infrastructure.
Staff said demolition of the existing site was completed in April 2025 and geotechnical re-surveys were done in July. The grant management plan was submitted to the granting agency on Saturday and staff said the agency has about 30 days to respond with feedback or approval. If the grant is approved, staff estimated about 120 days to complete the RFP process and execute a contract for design services.
Why it matters: The Glades Course work, Sable Palm Park procurement and Eastside Park grant are distinct pieces of the city’s parks capital-improvement program and represent a mix of funded and grant-dependent projects. The Eastside project, in particular, depends on grant approval before procurement and community outreach proceed to finalize scope and solicit a contractor.
Next steps: The Kimley‑Horn contract and related procurement items will appear on the commission agenda; vendor presentations for Sable Palm Park were scheduled for the later workshop session and the Eastside Community Park grant response remains pending a 30-day agency review.
