Wendy Hill Park nearing completion; Brentwood opts for natural trail connector and calls for trail safety education
Summary
Brentwood staff reported that restrooms for Wendy Hill Park have been delivered and playground installation is scheduled for about Oct. 1. The city will use a mulched natural trail instead of a paved connector to Shenandoah to preserve large trees; officials also urged trail safety and said staff will review e-bike guidance against Tennessee law.

City staff reported progress on Wendy Hill Park and commissioners discussed trail design and trail safety at the meeting. Restrooms for Wendy Hill Park have been delivered, the playground was expected to be installed around Oct. 1, and staff said the park’s planned completion window is October, with a grand opening to be scheduled closer to completion.
Commissioners and staff confirmed the city will not install a paved trail connection into the Shenandoah area; the project will instead include a natural, mulched trail. A staff member told the commission that constructing a hard trail at the proposed location would have caused root disturbance likely to damage significant trees, and that the natural trail preserves the canopy and legacy trees.
Commissioners also addressed trail safety and the increasing presence of motorized personal vehicles (e-bikes, fast scooters and similar devices) on multiuse trails. City Manager Gage reminded residents of rules against motorized vehicles on trails and encouraged helmet use. Mayor Mary Andrews and other commissioners urged community education and voluntary compliance rather than immediate regulation; the record shows Chief Colvin and city staff plan to meet to review legal guidance and provide a primer on what Tennessee law permits and what local discretion exists.
Separately, City Manager Gage announced Public Safety Day — hosted by Fire & Rescue with police participation — will be Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Brentwood Place Shopping Center, 330 Franklin Road.
Ending Staff will finalize park construction and schedule a grand opening; officials said they will follow up with a legal primer and potential guidance on e-bike use on city trails.
