District highlights summer renovations: playgrounds, roofing, secure vestibule and athletic scoreboards

District facilities staff presented a slide show to the board detailing capital and maintenance projects completed over the summer across elementary, middle and high school properties.
At Kelly Elementary, the district installed a new rubberized playground surface and refreshed blacktop that staff said improved accessibility for students using walkers and wheelchairs. The presentation noted new painted basketball lines and circulation improvements near entrances.
Linnentown saw classroom reconfigurations: former administrative and IU rooms were converted to teaching spaces with new carpet, paint, whiteboards and projectors. The presentation said one former office is now a larger classroom and another former costume closet was adapted into a smaller instructional room.
At the middle school staff showed images of a refreshed curved entry mural, a renovated athletic training room with new cabinetry and flooring, three classrooms with new VCT flooring, improvements to the library area and a ropes course refresh with new mulch. A multi-phase roofing project was completed; staff reported the second phase was finished this summer and noted added roof drains in some zones.
Security improvements include a new exchange window at the middle-school front entrance; staff said a secure vestibule wall will be moved out next week and the area will include an office for the school resource officer. The presentation included images of a newly installed window and described the vestibule work as currently in progress.
Athletic facility upgrades highlighted new scoreboards at Pauling (softball and field hockey) and at the junior varsity/junior-high field, new fencing and a home-run fence at the softball complex, new bleacher components and directional signage at the high school parking/field entrances. Staff noted that the Pauling parking area was crowded during recent events and the board discussed adding wayfinding or signage to encourage off-site parking and walking to the facility.
The presentation also listed upcoming small projects in September and October, including lighting work and a paving project at Pauling.
Board members thanked maintenance and custodial staff and asked for follow-up photos when the middle-school vestibule and signage work are complete. One board member raised parking and pedestrian-way signage at the Pauling complex as an item for staff to consider before larger fall events.
Staff asked for any questions and for board members to note that some finishing work will continue into September and October.
