Saucon Valley SD confirms interim teacher for kindergarten Spanish-immersion; fifth-grade teacher resignation reported

The Saucon Valley School District reported an unexpected vacancy in its kindergarten Spanish-immersion program and named a long-term substitute to cover the class while district staff seek a permanent hire.

Superintendent Miss Vlocity told the board that the kindergarten immersion teacher resigned abruptly and could not begin the first day of school. The district notified families and arranged a plan described to parents during an orientation-night meeting. Missus Keller was presented on the agenda as the long-term substitute the district intends to place in the classroom; Missus Paz, described in the meeting as a bilingual para‑professional, will work in the kindergarten classroom for math and reading intervention times to reinforce foundational Spanish skills.

The superintendent said Keller previously served as a long-term substitute in a fourth-grade Spanish-immersion classroom and will hold a classroom meet-and-greet on Thursday, Aug. 28, from 5 to 5:30 p.m. to welcome students and families. The district said the substitute placement is intended to be “least disruptive” as it continues recruiting a permanent teacher.

In the same report the superintendent informed the board that a fifth-grade Spanish-immersion teacher resigned effective the day of the meeting. Mr. Shonley (identified in the meeting as a district administrator) told the board he will work with building administration to transition students and to onboard a replacement as soon as possible.

The personnel approvals on the board agenda included the kindergarten long-term substitute as part of a bundle of eight personnel items; the board approved the personnel slate by voice vote during the meeting.

Board members and district staff described steps to support continuity for immersion students while the district conducts a search for permanent hires.
