The Southampton County School Board took three formal votes at its Sept. 8 meeting.
The board approved an amended agenda that added a closed-session item on school board clerk compensation. The motion to approve the agenda as amended was moved by Mr. Lane, seconded by Mr. Scott, and carried by voice vote with all members present saying “aye.” Eight of nine board members were present at roll call, establishing a quorum.
The board approved payment of the preliminary August expenditure report and bills as presented. The motion to pay the bills was moved by Mr. Scott and seconded by Ms. Lane; the board approved the motion by voice vote with all saying “aye.”
The board approved a use-of-facilities request from Camp 25 to use Riverdale Elementary for volleyball practice and games (Oct. 26–Dec. 18 practices; final game Dec. 21). Staff recommended approval noting the organization provided insurance and a nonprofit rate; Camp 25 will pay $1,696.50, reduced from a full cost amount the staff stated would have been $16,965. The motion to approve the request was moved by Ms. Bond, seconded by Ms. Lane, and approved by voice vote with all members saying “aye.”
