Gunnison police recognize two citizens after July crash and report busiest August in six years

Gunnison Police Chief Adamson used his Sept. 3 presentation to recognize two local residents, identified as Clint and Jayden, who were among the first to provide medical aid, including CPR, after a July accident in which a life was lost.
"Their willingness to step in without hesitation, without concern for anything but helping someone in need is a powerful reminder of the good that still exists in this world and in our community," Adamson said as he presented the recognition.
Adamson also reported that the department’s calls for service in August were the highest in the six‑year period his office examined. He described trends on when calls occur and noted the department’s priorities for patrol staffing and public engagement.
As part of a transparency and complaint process, Adamson said the department had added a QR code residents can scan to file complaints or provide information, which will auto‑populate intake fields to help staff follow up. He also said department policies and curb‑enforcement information are being made available online.
Adamson listed upcoming community events that the police department will support, including the homecoming parade scheduled for Sept. 12 and other public safety outreach activities. He said the department will continue to provide information about community events and staffing levels.
The council did not take formal action on the presentation; the session included a brief photo opportunity and distribution of a prepared statement to the council.
