Veronica Lisa, the district’s new student representative, updated the board on recent student activities across Beatrice Public Schools.
Lisa said elementary fifth graders have been broadcasting morning announcements — including birthdays, social skills, lunch menus and the Pledge of Allegiance — which are posted to YouTube daily. She reported that Beatrice High School held a “High 5 Friday” and that the high-school football team won its first game of the season against Nebraska City. The middle school has assigned students and staff to houses and begun the annual house competition; Lisa said houses now decide whether to play for house points or a game of chance in competitions.
Lisa told the board most students had completed fall testing and staff will use those results to measure progress across the year. She said high-school homecoming week was underway, with students decorating halls and announcing the top-five finalists for homecoming earlier in the day. The football team is scheduled to play Plott View on Friday in the homecoming game.
The board received the report during the information portion of the meeting; no action was required.
