The Public Safety Committee on Sept. 5 approved a motion to resume placing proceeds from vehicle sales into the county’s rolling equipment account (fund 01/1970) rather than using those proceeds for other purposes.
County administrators and committee members said the county had stopped posting vehicle sale proceeds to the rolling fund after the county began using capital borrowing for vehicle purchases. The administrator said restoring the prior practice would reduce the amount the county must borrow when it next replaces vehicles.
The motion to authorize vehicle revenue to be placed in fund 01/1970 was made by Supervisor Julie Fleming and seconded by Supervisor Turk; the committee approved the motion by voice vote.
The administrator explained the historical rationale: when the county previously placed sale proceeds in the rolling account, departments could draw on that account for replacement vehicles and borrowing needs were reduced. During a period of capital borrowing, that practice ceased to preserve borrowing capacity; committee members said conditions now favor returning sale proceeds to the rolling fund to offset future borrowing.
The committee recorded no numerical vote tally in the meeting minutes and did not set a specific implementation date beyond approving the authorization. Staff follow‑up is expected to administratively implement deposits to fund 01/1970 when vehicles are sold going forward.
