The City of Wausau Human Resources Committee voted to allow CCIT to continue enrolling in the city's health, dental and supplemental insurance plans for 2026 and 2027 and approved the 2026 benefit design with the current carrier, Aspireus, which carries a 9.5% premium increase.
HR Director said, "Since 2012, the city of Wausau has included CCITC in our benefit package, renewals. And we received confirmation from Jerry that they were going to, wish to piggyback with us again for the next 2 years." The committee put that inclusion "on file" by unanimous voice vote after a motion by Killian and second by Bartons.
On the 2026 benefit design, the HR Director told the committee, "We did go to market and received 2 bids for our insurance renewal. And at the, risk of it being extremely inconvenient to staff, we decided to go with our current service, which is, the Aspireus plan. And the 9.5% increase is what was promised to us last year, and that's what's being, given to us again this year. So there will be no material changes at all to coverage, to providers, to, to anything so no inconveniences for our staff." The committee approved the benefit design by unanimous voice vote on a motion by Tierney, seconded by Killian.
A committee member asked about the employee premium share, observing that "the employees pay 12% of the premium and then the city covers the rest and it looks like that's in the handbook." The HR Director said that 12% is outlined as a minimum contribution in the handbook and that staff has asked the state for clarification on situations where that minimum may not apply. No change to the 12% contribution was proposed or adopted at the meeting.
The motions recorded in the meeting minutes show both actions passed unanimously. No additional changes to coverage, provider networks or plan benefits were proposed at the meeting.
