The Berkeley County Committee on Justice & Public Safety approved multiple routine procurements and a $3,300 change order for the county jail expansion at its Sept. 8, 2025 meeting.
Committee members approved the annual renewal for Sailrite, the county’s digital forensics cell-phone software; a sole-source approval for a Taser lease through Axon Enterprise Inc.; an EMS purchase for Autopulse NXT secure devices; and an award to support forensic science improvements for FY2025. Each item was approved by voice vote.
The committee also approved a $3,300 change order proposed by jail administration to seal gaps behind fixtures where contraband could be hidden. County staff said the expense would be covered from the sheriff’s discretionary funds after a recent discovery of a six-inch knife behind similar fixtures. Staff described the work as specialized sealing/concrete work rather than ordinary household caulking. The committee approved the change order and noted the sheriff’s office would fund it from discretionary jail funds.
Motions on the items carried by voice vote; no roll-call tallies were recorded in the committee minutes.
