Seaman USD 345’s board approved two facilities expenditures Sept. 8: a package of shade structures for five elementary buildings and initial repairs to a basement drainage problem at the district's SEC (original) building.
The board awarded a construction bid for 20‑by‑20 shade structures plus concrete pads at the five elementary schools for a total of $116,001.25. The district staff broke that total into $90,006.25 for the shade structures and frames and $20,500 for the concrete pads. The structures were described as playground/assembly shade canopies to give students and classrooms sheltered outdoor space.
Separately, staff reported a major water intrusion incident in the SEC basement that exposed concrete settlement and cracking. The board approved an initial excavation and repair contract estimate of $24,004.97 to investigate and remediate the problem. Staff cautioned the board that final costs cannot be known until excavation occurs; if repairs will exceed the threshold established by the board, staff will return with a further request.
Both items were approved after staff presentations and board discussion. The shade‑structure bid was adopted as part of the district’s long‑range facilities plan; the SEC repair authorization was framed as an urgent maintenance response with an agreed limit requiring board review if costs rise beyond the initial estimate.
