Haysville School Board holds 2025–26 budget hearing; no public comment

At a Haysville School Board meeting, district staff presented the proposed 2025–26 budget and a public hearing was opened and closed with no members of the public speaking.
The staff presentation described the development process for the 2025–26 budget, said the district has reduced its total mill levy for seven consecutive years and emphasized that the final budget will depend on enrollment counts. “We’ve spent a lot of time looking at the budget,” a district staff member said, noting work with principals, a capital outlay discussion and coordination with Jen Reed and the curriculum department.
The presentation included the document that the district publishes and files with state and county agencies. The staff member said the budget materials include the forms sent to the state and county and that physical copies were provided to board members at the meeting.
On enrollment, the staff member said: “September 20 is count day,” and explained the district must base final funding and the budget on that count. The presentation committee said the preliminary count is followed by a mid-October reconciliation and a state audit of enrollment in the second semester, typically January or February, after which final budget figures will be available.
Jennifer Bain, a board member, thanked staff for efforts to reduce the tax rate and for preparing the budget materials. “Just wanna give a quick thank you to the staff for their continual look at this and finding ways to save taxpayers money by continually reducing, that that rate is great for our taxpayers and our constituents,” Bain said.
The board opened public comment on the proposed 2025–26 budget but, after waiting approximately five minutes with no speakers, closed the public comment period and concluded the budget hearing. The board did not record a formal vote or adoption during the hearing; staff noted the budget’s finalization remains contingent on enrollment results and subsequent audits.
The board was told it will receive an enrollment report in October and that the district will finalize its budget after the count and state audit processes are completed.
