Board reviews early designs for new Career & Technical Education building; architects to present in October

Haysville USD 261 staff presented early renderings and planning notes for a proposed Career & Technical Education (CTE) building at Campus High School and said architects and the district's construction manager at risk will provide a fuller presentation in October.
Administrators told the board the CTE building is planned on the south side of campus and would include an office and visitor check-in area, classrooms with large windows overlooking the campus, a health-care training area, a broadcasting lab and a central meeting space that could be used by students, parents and community groups. Staff emphasized that classrooms are being designed to be adaptable so pathways such as phlebotomy or other career tracks can be reconfigured as labor-market demand and student interest change.
The district plans to sequence other capital work (classroom, roof and HVAC projects) to avoid disrupting instruction; staff said much of that work will take place during summer months while the CTE building would allow construction with fewer interruptions to the school day. Staff indicated they expect to break ground around 2026, subject to final design and board approval of construction documents.
Board members asked about instructor recruitment and partnerships; staff said many instructors are current district employees and that the district may partner with WSU Tech for some specialized pathways. Staff also noted the CTE facility includes space that can serve as a FEMA shelter for campus emergency use. The architects and construction manager will return to the board in October for detailed feedback.
