Orono school board approves consent agenda; superintendent highlights start of school and activities

Superintendent Dr. Flesher reported that the district is in its second week of school on the main campus and has begun preschool at the Discovery Center. He said the district transitioned to a new transportation management company, First Student, and encouraged families to use the FirstView bus-tracking app for route and arrival notifications. “You can even see the map right on your phone in real time,” he said.
Flesher also outlined fall events: homecoming will run the week of Sept. 15–20 with a Friday night football game against Mound Westonka; the district plans dress-up days, a parade and a pregame tailgate sponsored by student senate and the Orono Foundation for Education. He noted the high school is fielding a fall musical (Tuck Everlasting) with performances beginning Nov. 14 and said mock trial is returning with practices starting Sept. 25 under a new coach.
Athletics highlights the superintendent shared included a new pool record by the girls’ 200-yard freestyle relay and several teams ranked in state polls. Dr. Flesher said the district has reintroduced a student athletic pass for $50, which allows entry to regular-season home activities for the year.
