McDaniel College tells Westminster council enrollment up; track access, nursing program and community events highlighted

Janelle Homboy, a McDaniel College representative, updated the Westminster mayor and common council Sept. 8 on campus enrollment, facilities and community events.
Homboy said McDaniel welcomed about 516 new students this fall and expects close to 1,700 undergraduate students overall. She said the college awarded more than $55 million in financial aid this year, noting that the college increased institutional support after reductions in a Maryland state grant program.
On campus improvements, Homboy said the track renovation is nearly complete and that public access will continue once work finishes. She said the public will be able to use the track to walk as before. Homboy also reported that McDaniel is finishing a renovation at the hospital campus to support a new nursing program and that the college welcomed 30 new nursing students this fall; she said visual branding work on the hospital campus would follow over the next six to nine months.
Homboy invited residents to campus events listed in the college’s MC Live schedule, and noted McDaniel’s participation in the upcoming Fall Fest parade. The mayor and council thanked the representative and asked follow‑up questions about the track surface and timing.
