Superintendent highlights high school punch list, donated training pool and Oct. 9 Business After Hours

Superintendent staff updated the Burlington Community School District board on Sept. 8 about ongoing high school construction wrap‑up, the return to service of a donated training (endless) pool, upcoming events and facility openings.
Staff said high school construction is largely at punch‑list status; lighting work in the career and technical building and final coatings on the gym floor remain. The superintendent said the gym floor coating must dry before the gym is ready and that the district expects the gym to be finished before homecoming week.
The superintendent credited Taylor Collins for expediting state approval to bring a donated training pool back into operation for athlete rehabilitation; staff said the state approved and a technician attended within four days to make it operational.
Staff announced Burlington High School will host Des Moines County teachers on Oct. 31 with national speaker Anthony Mohammad of Solution Tree. The district also plans a Business After Hours open house in partnership with the Greater Burlington Partnership on Oct. 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. to showcase the renovated high school and the Greyhound Performing Arts Center project.
Board members asked about facility timing and staff said the gym and performing arts work will be completed on a schedule intended to support fall events and athletics. No new funding allocations or contract approvals were announced as part of these updates.
