City staff provided the council with the August capital projects dashboard and highlighted progress on multiple projects, including McEwen, Robinson Lake, Southeast Park and right-of-way activity on the Columbia project.
Paul reported McEwen is progressing well and contractor Vulcan is preparing to blast within days after completing pre-blast surveys. He said Players Mill and Road Of The Round Table was closed for related work and the contractor is installing a gas line and other utilities. Robinson Lake excavation is advanced and moving a large volume of material, and Southeast Park, after a slow start, has recently mobilized additional equipment and begun substantial earthmoving.
On Columbia, staff said right-of-way acquisition is moving forward: some parcels have settled, others are moving toward condemnation, and appraisals are being prepared by a consulting team because the costs are reimbursable. Paul cautioned the amount of railroad tracks involved means the process will take time.
Alderman Burger raised a separate operational concern about Carruthers Parkway at State Route 96 (near Walgreens and the hospital). He asked staff to reexamine lane striping and turn-lane arrows to improve traffic flow for motorists trying to reach the interstate; staff said they will review the configuration in the resurfacing project and reengage traffic engineering. Council members also asked about a previously discussed signal at Lewisburg and Donaldson Creek; staff said the signal work is moving forward with overhead utilities being raised and equipment ordered.
The briefing contained no recorded votes; council members thanked staff for the updates and discussed follow-up traffic reviews and project monitoring.
