The Grand Island Planning Board voted to place Local Law No. 1 of 2025 (a draft maintenance/clearing law) back on its agenda for further review and to prepare recommendations to send to the town board.
Members said the draft contains unclear timeframes (one provision references 24 days where members thought it should be 24 hours), ambiguous fee coverage for town administrative costs, and a five-day compliance requirement tied to mailed notice that some members said could be unrealistic. Several members said the board had discussed the draft previously but had not provided formal recommendations and asked for time to prepare constructive edits rather than raise only objections.
One board member moved to put the local law review on the planning board’s next meeting agenda; another member seconded the motion and the board voted in favor. Members said they will draft suggested edits — focusing on clearer timeframes, assuring fees cover town costs, and resolving mailing/notice timing — and transmit recommendations to the town board if the board chooses to pursue changes.
Board members noted the town board had already acted on versions of the provision in some cases and that the planning board’s earlier review had been interrupted by meeting cancellations and personnel absences. The board scheduled time at the next meeting to finalize recommended changes to the local law.
