NCDOT representative urges Princeton to require proper traffic control for utility work on state roads

Mark Manriquez, speaking on behalf of the North Carolina Department of Transportation, told the Princeton Board of Commissioners during the public-comment period on Sept. 8 that utility crews working on state routes near town should use proper traffic-control measures.
Manriquez said he recently discussed utility work with a town contact and relayed concerns that crews on a state route lacked adequate signage and cones and that equipment had encroached into travel lanes. He asked the mayor and staff to ensure that contractors performing work on state-owned roads follow NCDOT's traffic-control requirements for the safety of workers and the public.
"We wanna make sure, mayor, that, the proper traffic control is used by the utility company," Manriquez said. He offered to share details and contact information so town staff could follow up with NCDOT staff on the incident cited.
Mayor and staff acknowledged the concern and said they would follow up with the town's contractors and engineers to ensure compliance with NCDOT standards.
