Wendell updates public-works yard, Lakewood Drive stormwater and Pleasant Grove connectivity projects

Town staff told the Wendell Town Board on Sept. 8 that construction on a new public works facility is progressing, the Lakewood Drive stormwater project is nearing completion, and the Pleasant Grove Connectivity Project is finished and open to pedestrians.

Brian Bray (project lead) reported the public works facility includes a 6,000-square-foot administration building and a 10,000-square-foot Fleet Services building. Exterior work is complete and interior installations (metal stud walls, HVAC, electrical and plumbing) are underway; staff estimated a substantial completion (move-in) date of February 2026. Bray said brick installation would begin the week after the meeting and that drywall work is advancing inside the buildings.

The Lakewood Drive project addressed a longstanding open-ditch drainage issue by installing closed stormwater piping, curb and gutter on the east side and a six-foot sidewalk on the west side; staff said final tweaks and future paving work could address roadway slope adjustments if needed. The Pleasant Grove Connectivity Project—completed—extended a six-foot sidewalk to connect from Lions Club Road through to downtown, added closed stormwater conveyance and included landscaping and slope mitigation.

Staff credited multiple internal teams for progress and identified assistant director Gonzalez and town engineer Sarah Lentine as project managers for the Lakewood and Pleasant Grove efforts. Several commissioners praised crews for the work and noted improved pedestrian connectivity between neighborhoods and downtown.

No formal action was taken; the board received the update and thanked staff for the progress report.
