Commission recommends dedication of electric easement along Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard for MTE project

The Murfreesboro Planning Commission on Sept. 3 unanimously recommended that City Council accept the dedication of an electric easement on city‑owned land along Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to allow Milton C. Electric (MTE) to install utility lines intended to increase electrical capacity across the corridor.

Planning staff member Shackelford Rolfe presented the mandatory referral and described the request as a city‑owned parcel where MTE proposes to install another utility line to connect to an existing line across the street to meet increasing electrical demand. Staff said they support the dedication and listed standard conditions: MTE must provide exhibits and legal descriptions for the City legal department to prepare the legal instruments, the legal instrument will be subject to final legal department review, and MTE will be responsible for recording fees and providing any required documentation.

With no public comment, the commission moved and seconded approval "subject to staff comments" and recorded unanimous aye votes. The recommendation will go to City Council, which would review and, if it approves, finalize the dedication through legal instruments and recording.
