A resident used the Sept. 8 council meeting to press for repairs to the public boat launch on Highway 3127 in Hahnville/Hornville (as described in public comment). The speaker said the ramp became inaccessible after a trailer accident and urged the parish to expedite repairs before hunting and boating season.
The parish president and department staff provided an update: the accident damaged the ramp and access; property ownership along the launch area has recently changed in places, so legal staff are working with a property owner to secure agreements needed for permanent repairs. Public works and GIS staff are coordinating with contractors to determine the most practical repair approach.
Parish staff described two repair approaches: 1) extending and sliding a concrete slab farther into the canal to reduce the chance trailer tires will drop off the back of the ramp, or 2) constructing a cofferdam, dewatering and rebuilding the ramp in place (a more expensive method). The parish said it prefers the slab-extension approach as more cost-effective and is pursuing property agreements and contractor estimates.
The parish also said it may propose modest improvements when repairs are complete — for example, a paved parking surface and low-level solar lighting — and would pursue necessary property agreements and funding before authorizing such work. Legal staff and the parish's recreation department are involved in coordinating the near-term reopening and any later enhancements.
No vote was taken; parish officials said they were actively working to reopen the launch as soon as agreements and contractor scheduling permit.
